Call for Contributors: Write for .WAV Gallery
A Message from OGD
.WAV Gallery started as a single curator's perspective on NYC's underground music scene. As .WAV Gallery grows from a personal voice into a fuller editorial publication, I'm inviting you to contribute.
The gallery has two sections. The Curator's Crates is free and publicly accessible: a recurring guide to must-hear music and cultural highlights, curated by OGD and guests. The Backroom is our members section (also free to join) where we publish deeper, longer-form work. Sign up with your email here.
What We're Looking For
The Backroom publishes longform pieces rooted in NYC's underground music scene. Strong pitches tend to be specific and written with a clear point of view. Some formats that have worked well here:
- Profiles/ Interviews : DJs, promoters, venue staff, and other figures whose stories complicate or enrich the way we understand the culture
- Scene reports: Immersive accounts of events, residencies, or moments worth preserving.
- Essays: Personal or critical writing that uses music as a lens into something larger
- Photo essays: Photographers should be prepared to contribute a short written piece alongside their images
- On-going Series: I'm also looking for guest writers for two recurring features: The Curator's Crates (our music and culture newsletter, where you can pitch one section or a full volume) and DJs with Day Jobs (profiles of artists who navigate a parallel career outside of music)
If you have an idea outside of the above, do not hesitate to share. The list is a starting point, not a boundary.
The Details
Pitches should be 200 words or less and include a brief bio. Tell me what the piece is and why it resonates with you. Contributors are paid $20 -$100 based on length, format, and experience.
Send pitches to ogd@wavgallery.com with the subject line: Backroom Pitch - [Your Name]. I read everything, and will follow up.
